Last month, I posted to Product Hunt my ๐Ÿ“ Math Homework Generator, a small JavaScript app that quickly generates math homework problems into printable worksheets. An early commenter said:

There's too much information here. I would suggest spreading it out, to help the user digest the content.

How does it work? Adding a step by step can make things a lot clearer for the user

At first, I was a bit annoyed at how I had to go to a separate website just to see his comments, but ultimately, I had to retaliate. I had to show him that he was.... right.

The UI was terrible.

You can see the old UI in my YouTube video that just merely has me clicking around the app. Originally, the app was purely to generate homework for my kids and to see if I could whip up an app that could create printable worksheets of randomized homework.

That critical comment actually motivated me to improve it. This product was initially my most well-received one prior to the ๐Ÿค– Meta Tag Generator , so it was worth pursuing.

The Improvements

  • A landing page with information spread out. Bonus animated logo and screenshot rotation.
  • The tips became a "tip scroller" so it only shows one tip at a time.
  • A wizard with a breadcrumb navigation, which was the hardest to implement.

Several spurts of motivation later, I got it done.
